Lake Isabella
Overview
At over 11,000 acres, this man made reservoir is one of the largest in the state. The lake is the dividing point between the Upper Kern River and the Lower Kern River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created the lake in 1953 when it dammed the Kern River. The lake is open to many activities including fishing, hiking, camping, windsurfing, skiing, and social gatherings. The trip to Lake Isabella is a beautiful ride through the Sequoia National Forest paralleling the Lower Kern River.
