Workshop Title: The Stories We Carry – Turning Memory into Creative Fiction and Nonfiction

Local writers are invited to start the new year with Writers of Kern (WOK), which is offering a half-year membership from January through June and hosting its January monthly meeting on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Hodel’s in Bakersfield. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., with the meeting and workshop starting at 9:15 a.m. Non-members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

January’s featured speaker is writer and educator Baylie Jett Mills, presenting “The Stories We Carry – Turning Memory into Creative Fiction and Nonfiction.” The workshop will explore techniques for using personal memories to develop fiction and nonfiction, with interactive writing exercises included.
