The Last Word-Art Exhibit
May 30, 2025 | 5:00 PM –9:00 PM
Overview
Art Exhibit "The Last Word" by local artist Alex. A powerful mixed media collection of over 30 art pieces confronting themes of discrimination, resilience, and hope through the eyes of a child. Alex helped shape the Bakersfield art scene in the late 80's & 90's and was well known for her community work. After 25 years, Alex was compelled to resurface and speak out through her art motivated by the treatment of children in immigration detention centers. Alex explains the meaning behind her collection. "History has shown us terrible atrocities and every time we survive it, we hope it is the last time we learn these hard lessons. Let us see the ugly truths behind discrimination, prejudice, racism, hypocrisy, genocide, and war, and vow to take all necessary actions to fight it. This collection is not about something beautiful to look at. It is meant to be empowering. It is meant to inspire collective change. It is hopeful. It is possible".
