Overview
Bakersfield, CA — The rhythm of creation comes alive once again as First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield hosts its annual Jazz Night, a community event blending sacred tradition and musical brilliance. Under the direction of Kevin Brisco II, Director of Worship Arts, this year’s theme draws inspiration from Genesis 1:1 — “In the beginning, God…” — exploring how God’s creative spirit continues to move through music, art, and humanity.
This year’s concert features an extraordinary collaboration between the Bakersfield Jazz Orchestra, led by Steve Eisen, and the Westminster Choir of First Presbyterian Church. Together, they will present a powerful and soulful program that celebrates the Gospel through the expressive language of jazz.
The Bakersfield Jazz Orchestra will feature some of the region’s most accomplished musicians:
• Trumpets: Jim Boccia, Mike Kerr, Kris Tiner, Alejandro Arvizu
• Trombones: Tony Aguilar, Tucker Ward, Ron Christian, Joshua Boyer
• Saxophones: Mike Raney, Mark Meyer, Chuck Degan, John Calo, Matt Ellis
• Rhythm Section: Michael Reyes, Kyle Burnham, Glen Fong
Blending the warmth of the Westminster Choir with the bold sound of the big band, Jazz Night promises an immersive musical experience that both honors the sacred and swings with energy. Listeners can expect a rich journey through rhythm, melody, and scripture — a reminder that God’s creative voice still speaks through every note.
