Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are invited to the fifth annual Hanukkah 8 Krazy Kilometers, an 8K run organized by Temple Beth El in celebration of the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. This community event will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the Panorama Vista Preserve and includes the 2K Latke Loop Fun Run. The race start time is 8:30 AM.
The 8K and 2K courses will take participants through scenic natural preserve land located along the Kern River near the Panorama Bluffs. The registration fee is $34 for the 8K and $30 for the 2K. A registration discount will be applied to teams of 3 or more. All participants will receive a custom finisher medal, Hanukkah swag, and entry into the race raffle. Plus those who register by November 27 will be guaranteed an event T-shirt.
This family-friendly holiday run will take place rain or shine and will include music, vendors, and water and refreshments for all participants. There will be awards for the top 8K finishers, prizes for members of the largest team and winners of the holiday costume contest, and a thank-you gift for legacy runners. Register online at runsignup.com/Race/CA/Bakersfield/8krazykilometers or in person between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM on race day.
Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah is traditionally celebrated by lighting a holiday candelabrum called a “menorah,” eating foods fried in oil like potato pancake “latkes,” playing the four-sided top or “dreidel” game, and exchanging gifts. In the spirit of holiday giving, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kern River Parkway Foundation, a local non-profit foundation that works to protect, preserve and restore the natural riparian and wildlife habitat of the Kern River.
