Strides for CJD
Date: Sunday, October 7 2018
On Sunday, October 7, supporters of those affected by
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) will gather at Lake Ming in
Bakersfield for Strides for CJD, a 5K Walk/Run in memory of
Bakersfield’s 25th Mayor and EMS pioneer Harvey L. Hall.
The event will allow families to pay tribute to their loved ones and
raise awareness of CJD, a rare neurodegenerative disease that
has no treatment or cure.
Location: Lake Ming
Time: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
This is a K-9 friendly event. Dogs on leashes are welcome!
CJD is caused by “prions,” proteins that can misfold in the brain,
with devastating effects, including rapid mental and physical
deterioration. CJD is the most common of the “prion diseases.”
Prion diseases are invariably fatal.
Mayor Hall succumbed to the sporadic form of CJD on
May 19, 2018. To honor him and bring awareness to CJD, the Hall
Family has joined with the national CJD Foundation, a 501 (c)(3)
organization, to raise funds to provide family support, medical
education, and research programs.
