Some great news out of the Condors luncheon I attended. Team President Matt Riley announced Bakersfield will be the host for the 2011 ECHL All Star Game. It's a tremendous honor not only to the Condors, but the fans and citizens of Bakersfield. The Condors are always tops in the ECHL for attendance and I think the All Star game will be a great showcase for Bakersfield.
We look to welcome thousands of hockey fans, scouts, players and officials to Bakersfield next January!
A nice article about the Bakersfield Sound.

Museum Day 2009 Poised to be Largest to Date
Bakersfield, Calif. —On

5th annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian Magazine. The
Bakersfield Museum of Art, Buena Vista Museum of Natural History and
the Kern County Museum will offer free admission to guests as part of
the day’s events. Smithsonian’s Museum Day reflects the spirit of the
magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian

of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors
at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.
“Visitors and
locals will really enjoy this wonderful opportunity to visit three
great museums in Bakersfield for free,” said Don Cohen, manager of the
Bakersfield Convention & Visitors Bureau. “With Smithsonian’s
backing community members can explore cultural assets they may have
never experienced.”
Last year, upwards of 200,000 people
attended Museum Day, with all 50 states plus Puerto Rico represented by
over 900 participating museums, including 84 Smithsonian affiliate
museums. This year, the magazine expects to attract over 1,000 museums.

Not familar with the show? From its web site:

Two hot cars. Two proud owners. And it’s winner takes all in PINKS. Host Rich Christensen travels the country pitting two contestants against one another in this high stakes drag race. I walked down to the Brimhall Square Farmers Market on Wednesday evening. For under $10 I was able to buy corn, asparagus, potatoes, limes and bell peppers.
The food is locally-grown, fresh and the atmosphere is great. There was a live band, about 20 booths and it was easily accessible with plenty of parking.
There are other farmers markets around Bakersfield, but this one is pretty nice. Check it out every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Brimhall Square parking lot at the corner of Brimhall and Calloway.
